Copernic inks deal with consulting firm for 4,100 software licenses

said Thursday it signed an agreement with a multi-national consulting firm for 4,100 licenses of its Copernic desktop search corporate edition software. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. The unidentified firm is a global information technology and consulting company with offices in more than 25 countries. Under the agreement, Copernic’s software will replace other desktop search tools and make it the default tool for all current and future employees, the company said.

Fewer servers, storage or data centers add up to significant savings. However companies that consolidate software could experience similar savings and backup software is a logical place to start. The last company I worked at used multiple backup software packages for a variety of reasons. Corporate acquisitions, no clear corporate directive on which backup software product to use, specialized application needs and, more often than not, the right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing all contributed to creating this convoluted situation.
