$275 Million Enterprise Social Software Market to Disrupt …
MarketWatch
Still in its infancy the $275 million enterprise social software market is expected to grow quickly in 2009 and beyond as large companies look for ways to integrate social functionality with legacy systems to publish share and collaborate in real-time. “While the enterprise social software market is evolving out of traditional content authoring management and CRM solutions it has significant potential to disrupt these markets” said Rachel Happe founder of The Community Roundtable. “This is because established application technologies — and the companies that create them — will have trouble keeping up since they are architected around content or process and not the end-user. The enterprise social software market today is made up of many players from point solution players like Wordpress in the blog space to larger social suite players like IBM with Lotus Connections. Cisco a new entrant to the social software suite market is looking to disrupt the disrupters taking market share from early players in this space as they elbow their way into the market.
Review: Apple’s new iphone 3G S and iphone Software 3.0
Apple Insider
0 seems to have none of the standout problems that plagued the ambitious iPhone 2. 0 release last year. If you own the original iPhone or picked up an iPhone 3G over the past year the new software is a free upgrade. If you have either model of the iPod touch the new software is a nominal $9. If you’re an iPod touch user and thinking of complaining about that upgrade price keep in mind that there aren’t any apps in iTunes that offer the major upgrade in features of the new iPhone 3.

applocker: Like Software Restriction Policies Improved
PC World
This feature was designed primarily to help administrators keep unwanted programs (like malware) off of their systems. No this feature is not called AppLocker. :>) Instead it was called: “Software Restriction Policies (SRPs)”. For myself I both advocated and often used this feature in an attempt to take a very proactive stance in ensuring that systems did not become vassals of malware. Additionally SRPs also provided a really good platform from which you could ensure that users only executed approved applications on their systems and for the occasional practical joke on the newbie. In other words minus some shortcomings (like Link) SRPs should have been part of every Windows heavy organization’s DID (Defense-in-Depth) approach to security. Sadly like so many other really great and helpful built-in security thingies to my knowledge SRPs were never really used.

Picking startups: humans versus software
San Francisco Chronicle
We only had room for a dozen but we picked them — which was hard — and gave them to the VCs who disagreed with our choices three quarters of the time. f the 12 ideas the Chronicle printed the VCs thought that nine of them for business reasons would not be good startups to back. Here now is a third way to rank your pitches — with software which disagrees with all of the humans involved in this project all the time at least so far. Most of your pitches were also sent to.
