After installing Windows, install the Linux CDs. It should recognize your FAT 32 Windows partition. With a good Linux distribution, you should be able to sail through the installation with nary a problem. The third line should read, Install FAT 32. Install normally takes about 30-60 minutes.
Had you have had a pirated copy of windows (and the majority does), then you could have downloaded a copy of windows SP 1/2, but you would have had to completely re-install and possibly format in order to install it. Should you have formatted, just to re-install windows with automatic updates turned on (and they are by default) you would get the virus again. The only way to find that Windows has a certain vulnerability is first for that vulnerability to be exploited. Eg, Microsoft using white hat hackers (the good guys) to breach windows, or for a hacker to break into a version of Windows and it is reported. With every version of Windows, it becomes more and more hi-tech.
It is important that users, frustrated with Windows, don't simply install a version of Llinux without knowing what they are in for. What I am getting at here is that Linux is great for those who are willing to take the time to learn the program, pick out and install a GUI they like (this may take a while!), and prefer choice over simple usability. Even the installation of Linux can be a chore if you are not familiar with Linux terminology. Windows is easy to learn, easy to run, and does not demand a lot from its users. If you don't have the time or knowledge, however, stay with Microsoft Windows for the time being, and be sure to download all updates and security patches as often as possible.
For basic security and update patches install Service Pack 2 for Windows XP or Service Pack 4 for Windows 2000. Once a month use Windows Update so you can get the latest pacthes. You can just use the Windows XP SP2 firewall for basic security. Lots of people install Firewalls because they belive their Internet security will be higher. Make sure you have installed an Anti Virus for 100% virus protection.
Depending on the selections you choose when installing Windows XP, you may or may not have East Asian Languages installed. Enabling Chinese input is quick and easy, there are only a few steps you need go through to install the Chinese Language support and input method before you can type Chinese in your word processor or other program. The steps are written based on Windows XP, and the configuration is similar with other version of Microsoft Operating systems. After installing East Asian support and adding services for Chinese, you are ready to input Chinese into your word-processor or email programs. Installing these files will allow you to use Chinese, Japanese, and Korean in your computer.
Back to when Windows 95 started to find its home on many computers there was just half a dozen of screensavers preinstalled with the system. Second, if you select another screensaver from the list in Display Properties dialog then Windows will forget any screensaver installed using the described method. You can recognize the ZIPped installation packages by their names. What you need is to drag the screensaver into your Windows folder. So you'd better create a special folder for screensavers that you choose to install this way.
If you have been running Windows XP for a couple of years or more you may find that it is not running quite as quickly and smoothly as it was when you did your first install. One thing to be aware of is that a new install of Windows is going to delete your current profile where your data is kept, you will be warned in the install and I am warning you here as well. In the install of Windows you will need to have at least 2 gigs of free space so make sure that you have freed up enough space to do the install. When I delete files on the computer before I reinstall Windows I do not delete all of the files or format the drive. The rest of the install should go smoothly and after you have finished you will have a nice new clean install of Windows with only the recycle bin on the desktop and no applications.
Windows XP Home Edition doesn't install the Backup utility by default. You'll need to install it manually from your Windows XP CD-ROM. In the unfortunate event that your computer crashes and you can't get it back by any other means, you'll need to reinstall Windows XP from the CD-ROM. Restart the computer and use the Backup Utility to restore Windows XP from the backup file. When using this backup method, it's important to be careful not to break any pins when you are removing and installing the data cable of the hard drive.
This is only for WINDOWS 98 SECOND EDITION ENGLISH. I highly recommend that you should backup your system before installing the pack. Microsoft has never released a service pack for Windows98 SE, but I made a Service Pack for Windows98 SE users. All old version users should install this version without uninstalling old version. However, the pack installs only required fixes for your system.
Another common method for people installing applications on your computer is tricking you in to doing it. Sometimes when you surf a website or play a game online they will need you to install an application to proceed. Often a box will appear that asks you for permission to install this application and you clicking 'yes' allows you to continue. What do I do if I already have spyware or adware installed. You install the application and then behind the scenes it installs the spyware or adware.
If you do, you may install spyware on your computer. Some software offered in spam actually installs spyware. The good news is that consumers can prevent spyware installation. If the EULA is hard to find - or difficult to understand - think twice about installing the software. Installed on your computer without your consent, spyware software monitors or controls your computer use.
Bring Back Those Desktop Icons
After you install Windows XP, you probably noticed that some of your icons from previous versions of Windows you've used are missing. Running Applications in Compatibility Mode
With Windows XP, you can run programs as if though they were being run under a different operating system. From here, you can select the new Windows XP style Start Menu, or return to the Windows 2000/Millennium style one. This also returns to the Windows 2000 style login screen. This fools or tricks the program into thinking you are really using a previous version of Windows, such as NT, 2000, 98, or 95.
Get a Firewall
If you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 2, you are probably
fine! In other cases, if your computer is connected to the Internet
directly you should get a firewall and install it. This spyware install themselves to your dial-up settings
and dials numbers without your knowledge, often to out of country
numbers. Use an Anti-Spyware application
Download and install one of the following anti-spyware programs. Spyware - also named Malware or Adware - are malicious software
programs, which most of the time get installed on your computer
without your knowledge. The anti-virus programs can not be sure, whether this program is
installed deliberately by you or it's a malicious Spyware.
Most people haven't ever installed Windows on their computers either-since it comes preloaded. You can install it through a graphical user interface like Windows. It can be installed on a native Windows Partition using the Lin4Win tool, but this may slow the machine down. Get Linux installed on a separate partition and you can switch between Windows and Linux. This is a Debian-type version, and can be installed without much fuss after resizing the Windows partition.
When Windows fails to boot it is normally caused by you installing a program or device and it has caused a conflict with one or more other programs. If the above procedures fail to repair your computer, you can repeat the first part of step one above and select Start Computer With CDROM Support re-install Windows. Windows XP users should create a boot disk now by placing a formatted blank diskette in the A. If your Operating System is Windows Millennium, turn on the computer and immediately press and hold down the CTRL key. You can always make a windows startup disk by creating one from another computer running Windows 98 or Me.
